A Statement from director Sage Hammer

As a trans person myself, it has been hard to hear of all the laws that are being passed in so many states around our country. Throughout the last few years, and especially since the “Don’t Say Gay” bill that passed in Florida in 2022, many hundreds of families and individuals have picked up their entire lives with short notice, and it is heartbreaking to watch on social media as they struggle to find safety.

When I heard from an old friend who is also trans (we both knew each other before our transitions) that she was starting a nonprofit to help the LGBTQIA+ community, and specifically Transgender people who need help getting out of their states and to Colorado, I knew I had a story. As I’ve begun to film, the story has changed, as it does in documentary; still I think it is important to highlight at least one trans story out of many.
