A Statement From Sage

Being transgender myself, it has been hard to hear of all the laws that are being passed in so many states around our country. Bathroom and healthcare bans make existing in those states almost impossible. Throughout the last few years, and especially since the “Don’t Say Gay” bill that passed in Florida in 2022, many hundreds of families and individuals have picked up their entire lives with short notice, and it is heartbreaking to watch on social media as they struggle to find safety.

With the fear the recent presidential election has garnered especially, individual trans stories are important to tell. We have been used as a scare tactic and as a political pawn for the last several years, which has continued to worsen the violence against us.

When I heard from an old friend who is also trans — we both knew each other before our transitions — that she was starting a nonprofit to help the LGBTQIA+ community, and specifically transgender people who need help getting out of their states and to Colorado, I knew I had a story.
